Our community
At the heart of L'Arche is a sense that we belong to each other. We are a community of friends who live life together:
We look after each other - we respect everyone’s point of view - we work together if people are in pain or difficulty - we celebrate life and friendship - above all, we are open to God in everything we do.
Our houses

Welcome home!
“to be human is to be bonded together, each with our own weaknesses and strengths, because we need each other.”
- Jean Vanier
Supported living

L'Arche supported living allows people with a learning disability to take control of their life through dedicated support in their own homes, with the knowledge that there is a community of friends to which they can turn for help, support or just a bit of fun!
Day activities
We make candles, greetings cards and mosaics, rugs, bags and broaches, panzies, geraniums and marrows...and in between times, we have a cup of tea and a little fun!
The L'Arche Factor
L'Arche communities are places where gifts are celebrated and where everyone has equal importance, regardless of ability
Jean Vanier

Jean Vanier is arguably one of the world's most important modern-day Christian writers. He writes of the spritiuality of Community life and is an international award-winning Christian author and the founder of L'Arche.
Henri Nouwen

"You are the heir to the Kingdom. Prosperity is your birth right and you hold the key to more abundance in every area of your life then you can possibly imagine."
Listen to Henri Nouwen's reflections on L'Arche, community and faith.
The Charter

The Charter of L'Arche calls upon society to welcome those who are marginalised and to recognise how people with learning disabilities call us all to live in unity and peace. It is reprinted here, in its entirety.
